Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Gainesville had an population of 133,997 people. This is an increase of 7.75% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 40.39% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gainesville had a population of 124,354 people (or 50.28% of the total population of Alachua County). This makes Gainesville the county's most populous community.

The population of Gainesville represents 0.66% of the population of Florida (which has 18,801,310 people), making it the state's 13th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 124,354 people, the population of Gainesville increased 30.29% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 95,447 people).
