Marion County was founded March 14, 1844. Marion was created by taking area from Alachua, Hillsborough and Orange Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Marion had a population of 365,579 people. This is an increase of 10.34% since the last Census (which gave a population of 331,331 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Marion represented 1.76% of the total population of Florida.
