Liberty County was founded December 15, 1855. Liberty was created by taking area from Franklin and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Liberty had a population of 7,983 people. This is an increase of 13.7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 7,021 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Liberty represented 0.04% of the total population of Florida, making it the state's 67th most populous county (out of 67 counties).
