The community of Apalachicola is the Seat for Franklin County.

Franklin County was founded February 8, 1832 and was created by taking area from JacksonCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Franklin had a population of 11,280 people. This is an increase of 2.02% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,057 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Franklin represented 0.07% of the total population of Florida, making it the state's 64th most populous county (out of 67 counties).
