Hillsborough County was founded January 25, 1834. Hillsborough was created by taking area from Alachua and Monroe Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hillsborough had a population of 1,476,431 people. This is an increase of 20.11% since the last Census (which gave a population of 1,229,226 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hillsborough represented 6.54% of the total population of Florida.
