Charlotte County was founded April 23, 1921 and was created by taking area from DeSoto County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Charlotte had a population of 188,910 people. This is an increase of 18.16% since the last Census (which gave a population of 159,875 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Charlotte represented 0.85% of the total population of Florida.
