Calhoun County was founded January 26, 1838. Calhoun was created by taking area from Washington and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Calhoun had a population of 13,821 people. This is an increase of 6.18% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,017 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Calhoun represented 0.08% of the total population of Florida, making it the state's 62nd most populous county (out of 67 counties).
