Welcome to Prairie ...

So far, we found very little information about Prairie. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Prairie to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Prairie - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Prairie, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Prairie , we believe that it would have been located within present day Washington County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Prairie, you might consider that their post office opened in 1910.

Time Zone: The area where Prairie was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Prairie still existed, it would have been in the (970) area code.

Communities Also Named Prairie ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 12 communities that are also named Prairie - they are located in Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Washington.

Adding Prairie to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Prairie was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Prairie post office opened in 1910.
