The city of Craig is located in Moffat County<1> (at the time of its founding, Craig was located in Routt County) and is the County Seat for Moffat County.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Craig, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1889.

The city was incorporated July 15, 1908.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Craig: Founded by William H. Tucker and named after the Reverend William Bayard Craig, one of the town's financial backers.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Craig has a population of 9,016 people<2> (see below for details).

Craig is 6,190 feet [1,887 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Craig is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Craig had an population of 9,016 people. This is a decrease of 4.73% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 1.88% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Craig had a population of 9,464 people (which is 68.6% of the total population of Moffat County). This makes Craig the county's most populous community.

The population of Craig represents 0.19% of the population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 47th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 9,464 people, the population of Craig increased 2.99% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 9,189 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Craig was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Craig post office opened in 1889.

We also found Craig in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
