Moffat County was founded February 27, 1911 and was created by taking area from RouttCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Moffat had a population of 13,980 people. This is an increase of 6.04% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,184 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Moffat represented 0.31% of the total population of Colorado, making it the state's 33rd most populous county (out of 64 counties).
