Adding Burrows Park to Our Gazetteer ...
As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.
The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Burrows Park was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>
From that list, the Burrows Park post office opened in 1876. The Burrows Park post office closed in 1882.

Footnotes ...
| <1> | We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Burrows Park, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy. |
| <2> | If you're interested in how the shape of Colorado's counties, including Hinsdale, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries. |
| <3> | It's a common practice for mapmakers to remove the apostrophe from possessive names. So Burrows Park may originally have been Burrow's Park. Sometimes the trailing 's' might be dropped altogether, in which case Burrows Park might be written as Burrow Park. For more information, please visit our Genealogy Helper Page for Burrows Park. |
| <4> | When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 970 code has been Overlayed with the 748 area code. New phone numbers in the Burrows Park area will be assigned with one of these codes: 970 or 748. As a result, placing a call in the Burrows Park area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number). |
