Buckingham would have been located within present day Weld County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Buckingham, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888.

From Place Names in Colorado,<3> the origin of Buckingham is described as "Named for C.D. Buckingham, a Superintendent for the Burlington Railroad."

While the community is gone, the present day location for Buckingham is 4,940 feet [1,506 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Buckingham is about 1 mile [or 1½ km] above sea level.

We originally found mention of Buckingham in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Buckingham was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Buckingham post office opened in 1888. The Buckingham post office closed in 1966.
