Welcome to Carson ...

While we don't have a date for the founding of Carson, you might get a feel for it by knowing that the earliest mention that we've found (so far) was on a map dated 1925.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Carson: Named after Isabella Carson McLaren, the mother of Kettle River farmer John McLaren.

When the people of Carson refer to themselves (known as a demonym), they frequently use Carsonite<1>

Time Zone: Carson lies in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time. The time zone in French: PST- Heure Normale du Pacifique (HNP), PDT- Heure Avancée du Pacifique (HAP).

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 24 communities that are also named Carson - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio (2), Oklahoma, Ontario, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Carson was on a map titled Map of British Columbia (from Gulf Refining, 1925).

We also found Carson in the book titled SPV's Comprehensive Railroad Atlas of North America - Western Canada.

<1>A demonym is the name for a resident of a community which is usually derived from (or is related to) the name of that community. In other words, it's how the residents of Carson refer to themselves. It's important to note that there aren't any rules for taking a community's name and turning it into a demonym. A demonym is informal and while the majority of Carson may use one name, keep in mind that others may use something different.
