The origin (or the toponymy) of Dierks: Named after Herman Dierks (1863-1946), who was the co-founder and president of the Dierks Lumber and Coal Company.

At the time of the 2010 Census, Dierks had a population of 1,133 people (which is 8.22% of the total population of Howard County). This makes Dierks the county's 3rd most populous community.
