Yell County was founded in 1840. Yell was created by taking area from Hot Spring, Pope and Scott Counties.
From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Yell had a population of 21,376 people. This is a decrease of 3.65% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,185 people in 2010).
At the time of the 2010 Census, Yell represented 0.76% of the total population of Arkansas.
