Madison County was founded in 1836 and was created by taking area from Washington County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Madison had a population of 16,519 people. This is an increase of 5.1% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,717 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Madison represented 0.54% of the total population of Arkansas.
