Baxter County was founded in 1873. Baxter was created by taking area from Fulton, Izard, Marion and Searcy Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Baxter had a population of 41,978 people. This is an increase of 1.12% since the last Census (which gave a population of 41,513 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Baxter represented 1.42% of the total population of Arkansas.
