While our initial data about Wilkes came from various goverment sources (GNIS, FIPS), we also found mention of Wilkes in various books, maps and other sources. When we find a mention, a fact or snippet, we add that information to our Gazetter.

The Wilkes post office opened in 1887 and had closed by 1889.
