Welcome to Roadway ...
So far, we found very little information about Roadway. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>
We've added Roadway to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Roadway - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Roadway, please Contact Us.
While we don't have the exact location of Roadway , we believe that it would have been located within present day DeKalb County<2>.
While we don't have a date for the founding of Roadway, you might consider that their post office opened in 1901.
Time Zone: The area where Roadway was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time
The Area Codes where Roadway was located: 256 & 938<3>
Adding Roadway to Our Gazetteer ...
The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Roadway was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>
From that list, the Roadway post office opened in 1901.
We also found Roadway on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Alabama (1911).

Footnotes ...
<1> | We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Roadway, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy. |
<2> | If you're interested in how the shape of Alabama's counties, including DeKalb, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries. |
<3> | When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 256 code has been Overlayed with the 938 area code. New phone numbers in the Roadway area will be assigned with one of these codes: 256 or 938. As a result, placing a call in the Roadway area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number). |
