Crenshaw County was founded in 1866. Crenshaw was created by taking area from Butler, Coffee, Covington, Lowndes and Pike Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Crenshaw had a population of 13,811 people. This is a decrease of 0.68% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,906 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Crenshaw represented 0.29% of the total population of Alabama.
