Welcome to Anna ...

So far, we found very little information about Anna. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Anna to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Anna - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Anna, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Anna , we believe that it would have been located within present day Houston County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Anna, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1901.

Time Zone: The area where Anna was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Anna was located: 334 & 483<3>

Adding Anna to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Anna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Anna post office opened in 1901. The Anna post office closed in 1904.

We also found Anna

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Anna, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Alabama's counties, including Houston, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 334 code has been Overlayed with the 483 area code. New phone numbers in the Anna area will be assigned with one of these codes: 334 or 483. As a result, placing a call in the Anna area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
