Welcome to Iditarod ...

So far, we found very little information about Iditarod. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

While we don't have a date for the founding of Iditarod, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1910.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Iditarod: Named after the Iditarod River.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Iditarod is 150 feet [46 m] above sea level.<2>.

Time Zone: The area where Iditarod was located is in the Alaskan Time Zone (AKST/AKDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Code where Iditarod was located: 907

We originally found mention of Iditarod in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Iditarod was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Iditarod post office opened in 1910.
