Welcome to Troy ...So far, we found very little information about Troy. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Troy to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Troy - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Troy, please Contact Us. Troy was located While we don't have the exact location of Troy , we believe that it would have been located within present day Freestone County<2>. While we don't have a date for the founding of Troy, you might consider that their post office opened in 1850. When the people of Troy referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Trojan<3> Time Zone: The area where Troy was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Texas communities named Troy: This one is located in Freestone County and the other is located in Bell County. Beyond Texas, there are 55 communities that are also named Troy - they are located in Alabama (2), Arizona, Arkansas (2), California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois (2), Indiana (2), Iowa (2), Kansas (2), Kentucky (2), Louisiana (2), Maine, Michigan (3), Minnesota (2), Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, Ohio (2), Oklahoma, Ontario (3), Oregon, Pennsylvania (3), South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Troy was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4> We also found Troy in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
