Welcome to Tokio ...

So far, we found very little information about Tokio. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Tokio was located in the Texas Panhandle.

Tokio would have been located within present day Terry County<2>.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Tokio, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1912.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Tokio is 3,300 feet [1,006 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the altitude of Tokio is about ¾ mile [or 1 km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Tokio was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel west from Tokio (for example, toward Tatum (NM)), you will leave Central Time and cross into the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT).

Tokio would have been located in the (806) area code.

We originally found mention of Tokio in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tokio was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Tokio post office opened in 1912.
