So far, we found very little information about Picher. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

The city of Picher would have been located within present day Ottawa County<2>.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Picher, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1916.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), Picher had a population of 20 people.<3> (see below for details).

While the community is gone, the present day location for Picher is 820 feet [250 m] above sea level.<4>.

Time Zone: The area where Picher was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Adding Picher to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Picher in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Picher was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Picher post office opened in 1916.

We also found Picher on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map (1922).
