Welcome to Macedonia ...

So far, we found very little information about Macedonia. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Macedonia to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Macedonia - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Macedonia, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Macedonia , we believe that it would have been located within present day Clinton County<2>.

The pronunciation of Macedonia: MASS-uh-DOH-nee-uh<3>

While we don't have a date for the founding of Macedonia, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1871.

Time Zone: The area where Macedonia was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Macedonia would have been located in the (937) area code.

Communities Also Named Macedonia ...

While we believe that this Macedonia is located in Clinton County, we know of another 2 Ohio communities named Macedonia. Those communities are located in the following counties: Butler and Summit County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 57 communities that are also named Macedonia - they are located in Alabama (6), Arkansas (4), Connecticut, Georgia (3), Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky (4), Louisiana, Mississippi (6), Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina (6), Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina (3), Tennessee (7), Texas (6) and Virginia.

Adding Macedonia to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Macedonia in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Macedonia was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Macedonia post office opened in 1871.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Macedonia, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Clinton, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>The pronunciation we've provided is our attempt to give a phonetic pronunciation for Macedonia. While it might not be exactly right, hopefully it will be close. If we have it wrong or there's a better way to pronounce the name, please contact us through our Feedback Page.
