At the time of the 2010 Census, Lower Salem had a population of 86 people. This makes Lower Salem the county's 7th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 86 people, the population of Lower Salem decreased 21.1% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 109 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lower Salem was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Lower Salem post office opened in 1828.

We also found Lower Salem in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
