Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Independence had an population of 7,181 people. This is an increase of 0.67% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 1.01% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Independence had a population of 7,133 people. This makes Independence the county's 37th most populous community.

The population of Independence represents 0.06% of the total population of Ohio (which has 11,536,504 people), making it the state's 204th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,133 people, the population of Independence has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,109 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Independence was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Independence post office opened in 1831.
