Welcome to Madison ...So far, we found very little information about Madison. The location of Madison has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Madison, you might consider that their post office opened in 1874. When the people of Madison referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Madisonian<4> While the community is gone, the present day location for Madison is 6,110 feet [1,862 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the altitude of Madison is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Madison was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you leave Madison and travel east, you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT). The location where Madison once stood is in the (575) area code.
