Welcome to Hematite ...So far, we found very little information about Hematite. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Hematite to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. The location of Hematite has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Hematite, you might consider that their post office opened in 1897. While the community is gone, the present day location for Hematite is 9,830 feet [2,996 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Hematite is about 1¾ mile [or ~3 km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Hematite was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time The location where Hematite once stood is in the (575) area code.
