At the time of the 2010 Census, Dickinson had a population of 17,787 people (which is 73.5% of the total population of Stark County). This makes Dickinson the county's most populous community.

The population of Dickinson represents 2.64% of the total population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 7th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 17,787 people, the population of Dickinson increased 11.1% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 16,010 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Dickinson was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Dickinson post office opened in 1881.
