At the time of the 2010 Census, Bottineau had a population of 2,211 people (which is 34.39% of the total population of Bottineau County). This makes Bottineau the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Bottineau was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Bottineau post office opened in 1884.
