While we don't have a date for the founding of Waldo, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1892.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Waldo: Named after Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), American essayist, lecturer, poet and leader of the mid-19th century Transcendentalist movement.

Waldo is 490 feet [149 m] above sea level.<3>.

We originally found mention of Waldo in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Waldo was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Waldo post office opened in 1892.

We also found Waldo on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Mississippi (1911).
