We aren't confident of the location of Greenwich Village, so consider the above location as an estimate.<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Greenwich Village, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1901. The community was inundated by the Quabbin Reservoir. A typical abbreviation for Greenwich Village: Greenwich Vlg. (in Canada, 'Vlge.' is the more common abbreviation.) While the community is gone, the present day location for Greenwich Village is 520 feet [158 m] above sea level.<4>.
