The Commemorative Quarter for Kansas

Welcome to Buda ...

So far, we found very little information about Buda. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Buda to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Buda - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Buda, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Buda , we believe that it would have been located within present day Ness County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Buda, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1882.

Time Zone: The area where Buda was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Buda still existed, it would have been in the (785) area code.

Communities Also Named Buda ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Kansas communities named Buda: This one is located in Ness County and the other is located in Cloud County.

Beyond Kansas, there are 10 communities that are also named Buda - they are located in Colorado, Florida (3), Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Ontario and Texas.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Buda.

Adding Buda to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Buda was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Buda post office opened in 1882.

We also found Buda in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Buda, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Kansas' counties, including Ness, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
