At the time of the 2010 Census, Columbus had a population of 44,061 people (which is 57.38% of the total population of Bartholomew County). This makes Columbus the county's most populous community.

The population of Columbus represents 0.68% of the total population of Indiana (which has 6,483,802 people), making it the state's 21st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 44,061 people, the population of Columbus increased 12.81% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 39,059 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Columbus was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Columbus post office opened in 1821.

We also found Columbus in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
