At the time of the 2010 Census, Tifton had a population of 16,350 people (which is 40.75% of the total population of Tift County). This makes Tifton the county's most populous community.

We originally found mention of Tifton in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tifton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Tifton post office opened in 1873.

We also found Tifton on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1910.
