While we don't have a date for the founding of Avalon, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1880.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Avalon had an population of 225 people. This is an increase of 5.63% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 19.06% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Avalon had a population of 213 people. This makes Avalon the county's 3rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 213 people, the population of Avalon decreased 23.38% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 278 people).

We originally found mention of Avalon in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Avalon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Avalon post office opened in 1880.

We also found Avalon on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Georgia (1911).
