The Commemorative Quarter for Colorado





Welcome to Sunset ...

So far, we found very little information about Sunset. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Sunset to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Sunset, please Contact Us.

Sunset would have been located within present day Boulder County<2>.


The location of Sunset has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Sunset, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1883.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Sunset is 7,720 feet [2,353 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Sunset is about 1½ mile [or ~2¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Sunset was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Sunset once stood is in the (303) and (720)<5> area codes.

Adding Sunset to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Sunset in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sunset was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Sunset post office opened in 1883.

We also found Sunset in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
