The location of Buckingham has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Buckingham, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888. From Place Names in Colorado,<4> the origin of Buckingham is described as "Named for C.D. Buckingham, a Superintendent for the Burlington Railroad." While the community is gone, the present day location for Buckingham is 4,940 feet [1,506 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the elevation of Buckingham is about 1 mile [or 1½ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Buckingham was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Buckingham would have been located in the (970) area code.
