Welcome to Bishop ...The city of Bishop is located just east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, west of the White Mountains and at the north end of Owens Valley. Bishop is located in Inyo County<1>. While we don't have a date for the founding of Bishop, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888. The city was incorporated May 6, 1903. The origin (or the toponymy) of Bishop: Named after Bishop Creek, which was named for Samuel Addsion Bishop (1825-1893) - an early settler in this area.
