Fremont County was founded in 1884 and was created by taking area from SweetwaterCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Fremont had a population of 38,719 people. This is an increase of 8.14% since the last Census (which gave a population of 35,804 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Fremont represented 7.25% of the total population of Wyoming, making it the state's 4th most populous county (out of 23 counties).
