Skamania County was founded in 1854 and was created by taking area from ClarkCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Skamania had a population of 10,894 people. This is an increase of 10.35% since the last Census (which gave a population of 9,872 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Skamania represented 0.17% of the total population of Washington, making it the state's 35th most populous county (out of 39 counties).
