The community of Friday Harbor is the Seat for San Juan County.

San Juan County was founded in 1873 and was created by taking area from WhatcomCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> San Juan had a population of 15,484 people. This is an increase of 10% since the last Census (which gave a population of 14,077 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, San Juan represented 0.24% of the total population of Washington, making it the state's 32nd most populous county (out of 39 counties).
