Asotin County was founded in 1883 and was created by taking area from GarfieldCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Asotin had a population of 21,432 people. This is an increase of 4.29% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,551 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Asotin represented 0.35% of the total population of Washington, making it the state's 29th most populous county (out of 39 counties).
