Piute County was founded in 1865 and was created by taking area from Beaver County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Piute had a population of 1,479 people. This is a decrease of 5.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 1,565 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Piute represented 0.06% of the total population of Utah.
