Wise County was founded in 1856 and was created by taking area from Cooke County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Wise had a population of 69,877 people. This is an increase of 18.18% since the last Census (which gave a population of 59,127 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wise represented 0.24% of the total population of Texas.
