Washington County is one of the original counties of Texas and was founded in 1836.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Washington had a population of 32,893 people. This is an increase of 8.3% since the last Census (which gave a population of 30,373 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Washington represented 0.15% of the total population of Texas, making it the state's 91st most populous county (out of 254 counties).
