Terry County was founded in 1876 and was created by taking area from Bexar County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Terry had a population of 12,337 people. This is a decrease of 2.72% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,682 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Terry represented 0.05% of the total population of Texas.
