Hunt County was founded in 1846. Hunt was created by taking area from Fannin and Nacogdoches Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hunt had a population of 98,559 people. This is an increase of 14.43% since the last Census (which gave a population of 86,129 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hunt represented 0.34% of the total population of Texas.
